AN OLD CITIZEN DEAD
Mr. G. L. Dixon, Sr., Dies Following
Apoplectic Stroke
Mr. George Lewis Dixon, a lifelong resident of the Mt. Olivet
section of this county, died at the home of his son, in that section last
Saturday night. He was 77 years of age and his death was not unexpected. About
five years ago, he suffered a stroke of apoplexy and had never regained his
health.
The funeral and burial occurred at
Mt. Olivet Church on Monday following, the Rev. M. M.
Benson officiating.
Mr. Dixon had spent nearly his entire
life in that section where he reared a large family of children. His wife died a
few years ago, and to that union were born nineteen children, twelve of whom
still survive. They are James Dixon, of Westville; Mrs. Louisa Thorn and Mrs.
Susie McCaskill, of Kershaw; Mrs.
Maggie McCaskill, of
Kershaw; Lewis Dixon, of Mt. Olivet; John Dixon, of Barnwell; Mrs. Loma
Stokes, Antioch; Frank Dixon, of Landford; Coroner George L. Dixon, Hardy Dixon,
Lemuel Dixon, of this county, and Mrs. Lottie Josey, of
Mayesville.
Mr. Dixon was a confederate veteran, being a
member of Company D, Seventh South Carolina
Battery. He was looked upon as a solid
substantial citizen and always took a keen interest in county and state
politics. He had a large number of relatives and friends in this county and
elsewhere who will regret to learn of his passing away.
